meet our teachers

Jen Massingale

Director & Teacher
My husband and I have been married since 2004 and we have twin girls who have been homeschooled since 2015.  I have been a member of Lake Country since 2001 and became the Children's Director in 2005.  The privilege to build a foundation with each child in our ministry has been one of the greatest blessings in my life.  I pray this ministry is blessing to your family.  I desired for my own girls, a homeschool 'family' with party days, yearbooks, community and faith.  I am humbled that the Lord blessed us so abundantly here!

Sandy Engel

Teacher
I am a wife, mother and grandma.......so thankful for my family, my church and God’s faithfulness in my life.  I have had the privilege of teaching in the public schools for the past 30 years, retiring just a year ago.  I look forward to meeting each one of you!  May God bless our year as we learn and grow together!

Lyndie Stevens

Art Teacher
My husband and I have been ministering to the people of Lake Country Baptist Church since 2004. It has been my life’s calling to serve God in this capacity, and as our 5 children grow, to watch them develop a desire to serve as well. Art has always been an important part of my life and ministry, and you can usually find me designing or creating something new!
My hope is that this class will inspire your student to develop a love for creating.

Julie Owen

Piano Instructor
I have been happily married to my husband Brad since 1999, and together we are raising our 4 children. I graduated from college in 2001 with a bachelors degree in secondary education, and in 2002 I began teaching my first piano students. I have continued teaching students of all ages, and I look forward to helping each new student discover, and develop their God given abilities.

Selah DeLong

Teacher
I’m so excited to be teaching 3rd grade English, 4/5th grade English, and 6th grade English and Writing for the 2022-23 school year. I graduated from Lake Stevens High School and from Everett Community College this past year. I spent the last two years of my high school career working toward my Associates degree. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to teach at Lake Country and become a part of the growing community. Some of my other hobbies are playing piano, reading, watching my favorite T.V. shows, and spending time with my family and friends.

Jessica Owen

Teacher
My husband and I moved from California to Lake Stevens in 2016. We love raising our three girls in the Pacific Northwest. We love hiking, paddleboarding, camping and anything else we can do outside.
I am so grateful to be a part of the Lake County Homeschool program. I graduated from Cascade College in Portland, OR with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. Over the years, I have been able to teach at many different schools throughout California and Washington. I have been homeschooling my girls for the last year and a half and the time with them has been so rewarding. I am so grateful God has led me here to use my gift as a teacher while teaching my own children as well.

Leighton Heape

2nd - 10th Grade STEM Teacher
My wife Amy and I have been married since 2010 and have 4 boys. I have been a design engineer since 2008. Over the last 5 years God has put a desire in my heart to connect with my boys and other families through family ministry. I have had the privilege of leading children's ministry and small groups but I always felt a desire to teach STEM. When we switched our boys to homeschool I missed the ability to help in the classrooms and to connect in that way. So as the school year was ending God led me to step out in faith and to ask Jen about teaching a STEM class here. I am really looking forward to meeting and getting to know each of you and your kiddos this year. I hope through the use of science, technology, math and engineering each student will learn how to think outside of the box, understanding that sometimes failing leads to growth, how to communicate, and work as a team.

David Kumpf

Kindergarten & 1st Grade STEM Teacher
My wife, Megan, and I are East coast transplants to the Pacific Northwest. We have been married for 9 years and have 3 kids with our oldest in Kindergarten. I have been a mechanical engineer since I graduated college in 2013 working primarily in the aerospace industry. I've been passionate about science and engineering since I was young. As I have grown in my understanding of how the world works I have become more in awe of the complexity and purposefulness of God's creation. My curiosity about how things work leads me to continuously be amazed by the Designer and Creator of the world. I am looking forward to working with your kids and cultivating a similar curiosity about how God designed things to work and learning how to use the minds he gave us to engineer and create! My hope is that this class will inspire your student to develop a love for creating.

Kerry Hill-McNallie

English Teacher
One of my passions is teaching kids how to learn.  After 24 years as a public school teacher, I "retired" to homeschool my grandchildren and now to help guide other parents in their homeschool endeavors.  Through the written and spoken word, God reveals to us the truth, beauty, and virtue of his creation which then allows us to contend with the current worldview.  I am blessed to be on this journey with students here at Lake Country as we learn to understand how the art of language builds enthusiasm, confidence, and excellence for God .

Kim Longwell

Teacher
I was born and raised in the PNW and am happily married to my husband Beau since 2005.  We share two boys and currently live in the Getchell area of Lake Stevens.  After two semesters at Boise State, I realized my passion for the fire and EMS field and returned home to study. After 7 years in that field, God called me to stay home and raise my boys and then home school them for 4 years.  I believe in nurturing our natural desires to observe, question and test the amazing Creation that has been gifted to us. I am excited to work with your children so that they may never lose their wonder and curiosity regarding this amazing world and all the creeping things contained in it.

Stacey Taylor

Teacher
I have been married to my husband for 20 years, have 4 children and have homeschooled since 2005. My husband accepted a position at Everett Naval Base in 2011 and we eagerly moved from Honolulu to Lake Stevens, excited about the beauty of the land, ease of access to travel and visit family members.  I hold an M.S. in Marriage, Family, and Child therapy and Post Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis. I currently work part time as a Behavior Analyst where I work with 1 to 13 year old children concentrating in behavior reduction, skill acquisition, and fluency.  Learning geography allows us a window into other cultures outside of our own. God is the amazing creator of this world we live in and we get the privilege of studying it. I look forward to bringing my experiences and passion for learning and gaining applicable skills to the classroom.
