Covenant membership

"Committing to one another as we grow in Jesus."

The local church is a gift from God. When we receive Jesus Christ as Savior, we are baptized into the Body of Christ—a body made up of all who have believed the gospel of Jesus throughout history. Because this body is vast and believers are spread across the world, God has established local churches so that followers of Christ can live out their faith together in meaningful, visible ways.

In fact, nearly fifty times in the New Testament we are given instruction on how to live with and care for “one another.” When we gather as the church, we gather to live out these commands. Doing so faithfully requires more than casual attendance—it requires a clear and intentional commitment to one another. It is a shared affirmation that we are committed to each other’s spiritual growth and ongoing sanctification.

For this reason, we practice Covenant Membership here at Lake Country. We invite those who have been regular attenders for at least six months to consider making a public commitment—both to the church and from the church—to walk together in accountability, encouragement, and love as we pursue an ever-growing life of sanctification in Christ.

Scripture reminds us of this calling:

Hebrews 10:24–25 (NKJV)

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Acts 2:42 (NKJV)

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Galatians 6:2 (NKJV)
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Next Steps

If you have been regularly attending Lake Country for the past six months or more, we invite you to prayerfully consider Covenant Membership. The next step is to set up a meeting with an elder, who will walk you through our beliefs, mission, and expectations of church membership. In the meeting you can ask questions, and formally commit to entering into covenant membership with the church. Our elder will recommend you for membership to our elder board and then the church.  Our desire is not simply to increase numbers, but to joyfully commit to walking together in faith, accountability, and love as we grow in Christ.
